A Tale of Two Science Buildings: Texas A&M Interdisciplinary Life Science Building (ILSB) and Emerging Technology and Economic Development Building (ETED)
Vergel Gay, AIA, Chief Facilities Planning & Construction Officer for The Texas A&M System (TAMUS), and Ed Cordes, AIA, Principal at Perkins+Will in Houston, will present a discussion and comparison of two large scale, specialized science buildings recently designed and constructed by TAMUS in College Station. Gay and Cordes will provide insight on the design and construction process from both the owner's and architect's perspectives. The Interdisciplinary Life Sciences Building (ILSB), an $80 million, 230,000 square foot collaborative research facility completed in 2009, was the first facility completed under the new A&M Life Sciences Master Plan. The Emerging Technology and Economic Development Building (ETED), designed subsequent to the ILSB, is a $75 million, 240,000 square foot facility geared toward engineering and biomedical engineering, complete in 2010. Topics include project metrics, design and construction process, the CM at Risk process, value management, Building Information Modeling, sustainable design, and lessons learned.
