Strategic Visioning: A Vital Tool in Times of Diminishing Resources
Ongoing shifts on the political, economic, and social fronts have generated the need for a skillfully led visioning process at the outset of higher education planning exercises and capital projects. The mandate to make the best use of scarce resources and meet the diverse needs of changing constituencies presents a compelling case for a strategic visioning process that builds consensus, solidifies goals, reduces risk, and ultimately benefits educational institutions and their surrounding communities. Finding the right balance to determine where limited resources can best serve the greater good requires strategic outreach. This session explores the communication techniques needed to engage stakeholders and other constituents to build consensus and community support for planning strategies, resource allocation and prioritization of capital improvements. This session will also include case studies of Lone Star College’s District-Wide Long Range Master Plan, and recent efforts on behalf of Houston Independent School District.
