Closing the Resource Gap: Strategies to get more building with your budget
The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College (UTB/TSC) passed a $68 million bond in 2004. UTB/TSC launched an ambitious plan to add five new buildings, a new parking lot, and a new thermal plant and remodel two facilites. These facilties had to be build concurently and completed within four years. In an effort to be good stewards of the public’s money, UTB/TSC demanded innovation in the implementation of its goals and objectives including minimizing scope reduction that seemed inevitable given escalation costs. To achieve this during a time of rapidly rising construction costs, UTB/TSC utilized various strategies while embracing the community for guidance and support in the decision-making process and remain true to its master plan guidelines and its historic architectural heritage.
