This course introduces LEEDv5, highlighting how the updated rating system reframes high-performance buildings around climate action, ecological conservation and restoration, and quality of life. Using Texas-based case studies, participants explore how LEEDv5 builds on prior versions and the implications of key changes. The session reviews updates to prerequisites and credits across major categories, including Energy and Atmosphere, Water Efficiency, Materials and Resources, Indoor Environmental Quality, and Location and Transportation. It emphasizes the shift from cost-based to carbon- and outcome-based metrics, along with new requirements for LEED Platinum projects such as operational carbon neutrality. Through project examples and discussion of implementation challenges, participants gain insight into impacts on scope, fees, owner engagement, and coordination. The course concludes with a comparison of LEEDv4 and LEEDv5 outcomes.
